PERMIT REQUIREMENTS FOR CROSSING SIDEWALK

(Permit required when crossing the public sidewalk to perform any work on any land, building or structure abutting thereon. Ref: City of Newton Ordinance Sec. 26-16)
•  $50 Fee to be submitted with standard 'Sidewalk Crossing Permit' application.
•  $1,000 Sidewalk Crossing Bond*
•  Dig Safe Number (Call 1-888-344-7233)

PERMIT TO REPAIR/INSTALL PUBLIC SIDEWALKS AND/OR CURBS

•  No Application Fee to be submitted with standard 'Install Curb Sidewalk Permit' application.
•  $5,000 Street Opening Bond*
•  $1,000,000 Certificate of Insurance* (commercial, general liability)
•  Dig Safe Number (Call 1-888-344-7233)
•  Must conform to Sidewalk/Driveway apron City standard details (inclusive of handicap standards as applicable)
•  Location plan if subsequently required per City Engineering Division review of site.

PERMIT/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS FOR SEWER/DRAIN INSTALLATIONS

•  3 Sets of Acceptable Plans showing vicinity and scope of work.
•  $100 Application Fee to be submitted with standard 'License to Install Sewer/Drain Permit' application
•  $5,000(min.) Drain Layers Bond* (A Higher Bond value will be based on scope of Project)
•  $1,000,000 Certificate of Insurance* (commercial, general liability)
•  Dig Safe Number (Call 1-888-344-7233)
•  Street Opening Permit (see below)

STREET OPENING PERMIT

(Applicable whenever City Public Ways are involved in the proposed construction, etc.)
•  1 Set of Acceptable Plans showing vicinity and scope of work.
•  $100 Application Fee to be submitted with standard 'Sidewalk Crossing Permit' application
•  Inspection/Maintenance Fee to be determined by City Engineering Division
   (Min. fee $150). PLEASE NOTE: Application/Inspection Maintenance Fee.
•  $5,000 (min.) Street Opening Bond* (A Higher Bond value will be based on scope of Project)
•  $1,000,000 Certificate of Insurance* (commercial, general liability)
•  Dig Safe Number (Call 1-888-344-7233)

All WATER SERVICE INSTALLATIONS ARE TO BE FILED AND ADMINISTERED BY THE WATER/SEWER DIVISION. 

*Bonds & Certificates of Insurance are typically obtained through Insurance agents
