COMPOST FOR SALE

The City of Newton has been making compost since 1986, the first community in MAssachusetts to do so with technical assitance from the MA Department of Environmental Protection. Until now, only small amounts of compost have been available to residents. Click here for the flyer. This year, for the first time, our screened compost is available for purchase as part of our expanded Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Program. Cost of compost loaded on purchaser's vehicle is $10.00 per cubic yard. The City may negotiate very large bulk purchases. The procedure for purchasing compost follows: 1. Purchase Receipts will be available at Newton City Hall , Customer Service Department, Monday – Friday 8:30 am-5:00 pm and Tuesday until 8:00 pm . 2. All compost will be sold in 4 cy lots. All Purchase Receipts will be for a standard minimum load of 4 cubic yards. Any purchaser buying more than the minimum at any one time will have to purchase individual Purchase Receipts to total the amount being purchased in lots of 4 cy each, i.e. purchaser wanting 24 cubic yards must purchase 6 Purchase Receipts. Multiple Purchase Receipts must be used within 10 business days. All compost is available at the Newton Resource Recovery Center at Rumford Avenue , 617-552-7187. Monday-Friday: 7:30 – 2:30 .
