To celebrate Earth Day (April 22), the Division of Environmental Affairs is hosting a month of earth-friendly activities.
Fun ways to celebrate:

Visit the Recycling Depot at Rumford Ave! Open Monday through Friday from 7:30am til 2:30pm and Saturdays from 7:30am to 12:30pm, you can recycle your paper, cardboard, bottles, and cans. You can also drop off old computers, scrap metal, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs. Visit our Book Swap...take some, leave some!
- Sign up on WasteNotNewton.com! Become a member of Newton's on-line reusable materials exchange. Here you can sell, swap, or donate your unwanted items. Help to keep useable items out of our waste stream.
- Become a Neighborhood Recycling Captain! We need your help to help educate your neighbors about the City's recycling programs. Email recycling@newtonma.gov for more information.
- Sign up to receive The Green Bin! Stay in the loop with our quarterly newsletter. Click here to sign up!
- Buy a Rain Barrel! Collect rain water runoff to water your garden. Get yours today. Order online at www.nerainbarrel.com
- Pick up a FREE water conservation tool! We have garden hose attachments and rain gauges. One per Newton household. Stop by Customer Service at City Hall to get yours!
- Check out the Recycling Exhibit at the Newton Free Library all month long! Find out what can be made from recycled materials.
- Participate in the 8th Annual Charles River Clean Up on Saturday, April 21 from 9am to 12pm. Join neighbors to pick up trash along the river banks to help make your watershed healthier and more beautiful! Contact Maria Rose for more information mrose@newtonma.gov
- Clear out clutter without adding to the waste stream! Join us for the 4th Annual Trade and Recycle Day, Sunday, April 29th from 9am to 2pm at the Rumford Ave Recycling Depot.
