April is GreenUp Newton!

To celebrate Earth Day (April 22), the Division of Environmental Affairs is hosting a month of earth-friendly activities.

Fun ways to celebrate:

Visit the Recycling Depot at Rumford Ave! Open Monday through Friday from 7:30am til 2:30pm and Saturdays from 7:30am to 12:30pm, you can recycle your paper, cardboard, bottles, and cans. You can also drop off scrap metal, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs.

Buy a Rain Barrel! Collect rain water runoff to water your garden. Get yours today. Order online at www.nerainbarrel.com

Check out the Recycling Exhibit at the Newton Free Library all month long! Find out what can be made from recycled materials.

Participate in the 11th Annual Charles River Clean Up on Saturday, April 24 from 9am to 12pm. Join neighbors to pick up trash along the river banks to help make your watershed healthier and more beautiful! For more information, contact mrose@newtonma.gov or visit www.charlesriver.org

Learn to Compost! Come learn how to turn your yard waste and garbage into "black gold", a valuable resource for your gardens, plants, and lawns. We will be holding composting demonstrations each Friday in April at 110 Crafts St. from 3:30pm to 5pm. Take a look at our composting guide! For more information, email recycling@newtonma.gov or call 617.796.1471
