recycle paper! Recycle More Paper

If you can rip it, you can recycle it!

Newton has set a goal to recycle 60% of the paper in our waste stream and we need your help!

Since July 1, 2005, our paper recycling rate has ranged from 42% to 60%. In order to reach our goal for the whole year, we need to meet or exceed the 60% goal each week!

WHY? When you recycle your paper instead of throwing it away, the City saves over $130 in trash disposal costs and earns over $40 per ton of paper that is recycled.  That's a combined savings of $170!  Why waste a good thing?

HOW? It's easy.  Make sure you know what can be recycled (click here for a list).  Encourage everyone in your household to pitch in to the recycling bin.  Place extra recycling containers where you use paper the most (home office, kitchen).

Check out our progress! Click here for a graph that tracks our weekly progress.
