MASSACHUSETTS WATER RESOURCE AUTHORITY

Due to the concerns regarding algae activity in Wachusett Reservoir and the associated concerns with taste and odor, on June 15, 2006 the MWRA applied 5,000 lbs. of copper sulfate for the target algae Synura at a treatment depth of 7 meters. The copper sulfate was applied by properly licensed MWRA staff.

Anabaena algae can produce ranges of musty, grassy to fishy taste and odors in the water (but do not pose a health risk).

The water is safe to drink and for use in household activities.

If you have any questions or concerns please call Andrea Enos at the MWRA at (617) 305-5809.

Thank you.
