Newton Highlands Annual Village Day
Note: Village Day 2002 will take place on Sunday, June 9!
As part of the community, many of you are probably already aware that Newton Highlands is the site of several events throughout the year, which are arranged by the Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council. These community events are designed not only to provide community cohesiveness, but also to raise the profile of our vibrant commercial district. The events include a very popular annual Halloween Party and Haunted House; a Winter Social, which allows residents to gather in a social setting to sample some of the wonderful food available in the Highlands (all of which is donated by the businesses), and the annual Village Day parade and festival, which is the most elaborate and far-reaching event.

Village Day, as the pictures show, is a popular and attractive event, which requires a great deal of advance planning by the Area Council members. One of the ways we advertise the event is by hanging a giant banner across Lincoln Street a month or so prior to the event. (You may be able to see the banner in picture on the left.).
During the Village Day festivities, many merchants will participate by bringing out their products to create a lively street fair. In addition, restaurants will serve items from their menus in a sidewalk café style! Children and those young at heart have an opportunity to enjoy rides which are set up next to the Brigham House community center.
Also, local bands will play music of various kinds, and occasionally artists will sing! This is usually set up in front of the Congregational Church. The Village Day festivities take place throughout the late morning and afternoon, and residents of Newton Highlands and from all over Newton are invited to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Village Day requires quite a bit of preparation, so all potential volunteers are welcome to contact the Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council if they wish to pitch in and join in the organization of this grand event.
The rides and live music are a big hit with all ages.
Also, if you would like to participate as a vendor, or as a musician or entertainer, please contact Susan Fast, 965-4809. We look forward to another exciting Village Day in 2002!

Kids can enjoy various fun rides and other games. And there’s lots of tasty food, too!

And, of course, food and shopping are always popular.
