What We Do

We respond to acts of local discrimination.
We investigate complaints of discrimination filed with our office.
We mediate disputes to achieve resolutions.
We educate the public through challenging and informative programs and discussions on human rights issues.
We maintain a working relationship with teachers, administrators, students and parents to support Newton schools’ diversity curriculum.

Who We Are
Established in 1973, the Newton Human Rights Commission consists of Commissioners and advisory council members. All members are volunteers who live in Newton and are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Alderman. Members come from all walks of life.
