Newton Salutes! The League of Women Voters Newton, 1936-2011: 75 Years of Making Democracy Work

Through January 15, 2012

Seventy-five years of League of Women Voters Newton history is now on display at Historic Newton, including photos and memorabilia from the League’s archives. Stop by and learn about the productive and important work League members have accomplished over the years. Among the topics explored are: the League’s many voter education projects; the “Votermobiles” driven by League members to factories, shopping centers, and railroad stations in the 1940’s and 1950’s to distribute candidate information for city elections; and Newton’s Constitution bicentennial celebration in 1987. In addition, the exhibit includes vintage pins, plates, and League magazines.
The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government; it does not endorse or promote candidates. About Newton Salutes!.
