How To Apply for a Weekday Entertainment License and Automatic Amusement Machine License
WEEKDAY ENTERTAINMENT
No form of Weekday or Sunday Entertainment may be provided unless same has been approved and a license secured from the Newton Board of License Commissioners.
AUTOMATIC AMUSEMENT MACHINES
No Automatic Amusement Machines may be within or upon the licensed premises unless same have been approved and licensed by the Newton Board of License Commissioners.
GENERAL:
With the granting of licenses, the Newton Board of License Commissioners, will always consider the public need, the public good and public welfare within that geographic section of the City of Newton where a proposed restaurant will be located. The impact of additional traffic is a matter which the Board of License Commissioners may consider in reaching its determination as well as the lack of parking for motor vehicles.THE NEWTON BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS HAS A REGULATIONS BOOKLET WHICH APPLIES TO ACTIVITIES WITHIN LICENSED PREMISES AND CONDUCT OF PATRONS WITHIN A LICENSED PREMISES, WHICH IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
THE NEWTON BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS HAS AN ADOPTED REGULATION: "NO LICENSEE SHALL MAKE ANY DISTINCTION, DISCRIMINATION OR RESTRICTION ON ACCOUNT OF RACE, COLOR, RELIGIOUS CREED, NATIONAL ORIGIN, SEX OR ANCESTRY RELATIVE TO THE ADMISSION OR TREATMENT OF ANY PERSON".

The office of the Newton Board of License Commissioners and its staff is available to assist applicants for licenses, as well as existing licensees, with any matters pertaining to licenses, rules and regulations of the Newton Board of License Commissioners and The Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is the objective of the office to work as closely as possible with applicants and existing licensees so that the food and beverage industry within the City of Newton is one that will maintain the highest possible standard in regards to "quality of life", highway safety and the responsible sale and service of alcoholic beverages.THE CITY OF NEWTON IS UNIQUE IN THAT THE BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS, THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR, THE NEWTON POLICE DEPARTMENT, HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND FIRE PREVENTION DEPARTMENT JOINTLY WORK TOGETHER ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, TO ENSURE THAT THE "QUALITY OF SERVICE" AND "RESPONSIBLE SALE AND SERVICE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES" IS A JOINT SUCCESS. OUR JOINT SUCCESS IS RELATED TO THE VERY HIGH DEGREE OF COOPERATION THAT WE RECEIVE FROM OUR LICENSEES. BY ACTION OF THE BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS, EVERY RANKING OFFICER OF THE NEWTON POLICE DEPARTMENT IS AN AGENT FOR THE COMMISSION.
