Director's Welcome
Moving into 2012
As we move into another exciting year of therapeutic recreation programs in the City of Newton, we wanted to let you know that our department is moving over the next month. Our new office will be at 124 Vernon Street in Newton Corner. We will be in the yellow Victorian building, which was Newton’s children’s branch library, within Chaffin Park. We are just off Centre Street, North of Elliot Church and South of the rotary that goes over the Mass Pike. Our phone numbers will stay the same. We always enjoy visitors, so you are welcome to come in and check out our new digs in 2012.
Our 2012 season starts the first week in January and focuses on basketball, ice-skating, instructional swimming, floor hockey and our downhill ski trip.
In February snowshoeing and our new Vacation Spectaculars program for teens and adults, which includes a trip to Boston Bowl and the Harlem Globetrotters, adds to the mix.
March rings in our annual basketball tournaments and the Special Olympic Winter Games. It also marks the start of our track, swim, theatre and bowling programs.
In April, our Hooligans spring soccer season will begin and our vacation week Spectaculars Program includes a movie night and a trip to see the Pawtucket Red Sox. Towards the end of the month our tennis and baseball programs will swing into full gear.
In May, our golf and rowing clinics start and we will be hosting a carnival themed Awards Celebration.
June is all about the Special Olympic Summer Games and putting the final touches on Camp Echo Bridge preparations.
We have many offerings in the New Year and we hope you will come join us and enjoy the endless benefits of therapeutic recreation.
On behalf of the Newton Parks & Recreation Department we wish you and your family a healthy and joyous holiday season.
Mark Kelly
