Dear Picnic Permit Applicant,
Welcome to another picnic season! The Parks and Recreation Department will start accepting applications beginning February 1, for the use of the Auburndale Cove Picnic areas this spring, summer and early autumn. As you prepare for the picnic season we want to remind you of some of the rules regarding the use of Auburndale Cove.Auburndale Cove, located on West Pine Street in Auburndale, will offer 5 picnic sites complete with tables and grills. The non-refundable fee for the Auburndale Cove picnic areas is as follows: 100-person site (site 1 or 2) $30.00 per hour, 50-person site (site 3 or 4) $20.00 per hour, 20-person site (site 5) $10.00 per hour. Payment must be made when filing the application. Checks should be made payable to the City of Newton. Picnic permits are non-transferable.
The Newton Parks and Recreation Commission does not permit the use of alcohol at Auburndale Cove unless the appropriate alcohol permit is filed with the department and the City. For information on how to apply for an alcohol permit please contact the Parks and Recreation Department before filing your permit application. Once the picnic permit is issued there will be no refunds.
Those familiar with the Auburndale Cove know that it abuts a residential neighborhood. The residents have been very accommodating over the years regarding noise and other disruptions. Largely, permit holders have been considerate of the neighborhood. However, we would be remiss if we did not remind all who are considering applying for a picnic permit that it is imperative that they abide by the rules, regulations, and City ordinances specified on the back of the permit, and noted in this letter.
All picnics must end by 7:30 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier) throughout the season. Weekday and Saturday permits are not issued before 9:30 a.m.; Sunday permits may not begin before 10:00 a.m. It is important that all picnickers in your group, as well as your caterer (if applicable) be made aware of these starting and ending times. The use of amplified or live music is not permitted at Auburndale Cove. Persons with questions as to what is allowed at the Cove should contact the Parks and Recreation Department or view our web site at www.ci.newton.ma.us/parks It is expected that all picnic permit holders will abide by the rules and regulations of the facility.
Cars, trucks and motorcycles may not park on Auburndale Cove grounds. There is a large parking lot on West Pine Street. Groups are encouraged to carpool whenever possible. Parking on West Pine Street is discouraged. Cars found blocking driveways or impeding the traffic flow on West Pine Street will be towed.
The Parks and Recreation Department appreciates your cooperation in abiding by the rules and regulations set forth in this letter and on the picnic permit. We wish you and your family an enjoyable time at one of the most pristine picnic areas in suburban Boston.
Sincerely,
Robert J. DeRubeis
