August 24, Rained Out

August 31

Wow!  Was it hot!  Seven of us showed up and played 9 holes.  Believe it or not, some went on to play the back nine!  Results shown on the attached Excel table.

Jim Allaire was the only prize winner for his beautiful drive on No 7.  Congratulations, Jim.

TOURNAMENT

We're arranging to have a 9-hole tournament on Tuesday, October 5th. Then, the same evening we'll have our Annual NSGL Dinner at Bertucci's in Newton Corner (same place as last year.  So, put the date on your calendar, and invite your spouse, family members, or significant other to join us at dinner.  Nancy Scammon is making arrangements with Bertucci's management.  Hopefully, we can keep the cost down. (Last year, Bertucci's arranged a menu with 4-5 entree choices, salad and dessert for $20.  Cocktails and fountain drinks were extra.)

I need to have an idea how many will be playing before I can decided on the format of the tournament.  So, for planning purposes, would you pls let me know by reply email if you plan to play in the Tournament, if you plan to attend the dinner, and how many guests.

There will not be an entry fee - other than normal greens fees, but we will have prizes for the winners, and some surprises for all!  Play in the Tournament will be restricted to players with 3 or more rounds recorded on the Excel table.  Others with less than 3 plays may play on that day, but not in the Tournament.  There's still enough time for everyone to qualify.  I'll look for you in the coming weeks.

Regards,

Ted

Some Rules Changes/Additions

(1)   Our league rule is that a golfer must pick up his/her ball and move on once he/she reaches 3 strokes over par.  However, if another golfer in the group scores exactly 3 over par, than those picking up must add a stroke.

The reason for this rule is to avoid a long wait on the tee for groups behind.

(2)   If your ball lands in a water hazard, take a one stroke penalty and drop on the side of the hazard NEAREST to the green.  Please do not take a long time “fishing” your ball out of a water hazard.  One minute is a reasonable time.

(3)   If your ball is unplayable behind an obstruction, you may drop within one club length of the spot in any direction as long as the ball is no closer to the pin.  If the obstruction is a natural obstruction (e.g., a tree), take a one stroke penalty; however, if the obstruction is man-made (e.g., a fence ), there is no penalty.

(4)   If your ball lands on another fairway, and people are playing on that fairway, pick up your ball and drop in your fairway no closer to the pin,  for a one stroke penalty.  If no one is playing on the other fairway, you may opt to play the ball instead of taking a one stroke penalty.

(5)   You are allowed a second drive from the first tee with no penalty; however, a second –or provisional drive – from any other tee may be taken with a one stroke penalty.

Please observe proper golf courtesy at all times.  “Ready” golf on tees and fairways is recommended to save time, but rules of courtesy (i.e., furthest from the pin goes first) apply on the greens.
