Kids
Korner is a developmental child experience where children can learn
while they play. Children have an opportunity for social, emotional,
physical and mental development in a nurturing environment. Activities
are individual and age appropriate.
History:
In
1988 the Kids Korner Program opened for 15 pre-schoolers
at Burr Park for its summer day camp program. Sponsored
by the Newton Parks and Recreation. Department, Kids Korner
Summer Program is a pre-school age summer activity camp
for children ages 3.5 to pre-kindergarten.
The
program was designed to provide children in this age group
with an enjoyable safe and fun experience. Children are
encouraged to develop a wide variety of skills in a nurturing
environment. Today the program has evolved and services
35 children per week for either half day, full day, and/or
extended day.
DIRECTIONS: Washington St. East. Right on Centre St. At first set of lights take left on Church Street. Cross the Eldredge St intersection go to top of hill. At the stop sign take a left on Park St and Burr Park is on your right.
The
days activities are centered around the theme of the
week. Children are challenged by a variety of activities
including, games, creative arts, story telling, water
and sand play and journal writing.
Swimming:
Daily
water play will take place in the built in wading pool
on site. The wading pool is filled and drained on a
daily basis and is also regulated by the City of Newton
Health Department.
Special
Events:
Special events
may take place during the summer. Events are usually related
to the theme of the week. Parents will be notified prior
to any special event.
Absences:
If your child
will be absent from Kids Korner please call Burr Park
between 8:00 - 8:30 AM and notify the staff at 617-244-6167.
What To
Bring To "CAMP"
Campers
should wear a bathing suit camp, bring along a towel,
water shoes and a change of clothes every day.
At
Camp we do a vairety of activities so play clothes,
sneakers, socks, and a jacket or sweatshirt on cool
days should be worn.
Snack
is provided by the camp. Campers staying through lunch
should bring a lunch and something to drink.
Please
clearly mark all campers belongings.
Scholarship
Information:
Scholarship
information is available upon request. The Parks and
Recreation Department offers scholarships to Newton
families who are in need and fall under the State guidelines
for low to moderate income households.
Open House:
An open house
will be scheduled in June. This will allow parents
to meet staff and ask any other questions they may have
at that time. Notices will be sent as to the date
and time.
