Economic Development

"Economic prosperity and an attractive living environment are the objectives of Newton's economic development. For our economic development strategy to succeed, it must capitalize on Newton's strength as a desirable residential community and as a top-notch business location. Newton thrives when it optimizes the interaction between its residential and commercial constituents." - Newton Comprehensive Plan, 2007

What's new in Economic Development:

  • "Envisioning Needham Street" - During the fall semester, a class of graduate students from the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning has been studying one of the City's most important commericial corridors: Needham Street. At a community meeting at City Hall on October 28th, they presented their preliminary findings and analysis on land use, zoning, transportation, and development. The students then refined their ideas and presented their final recommendations at a second community meeting on Thursday, December 2nd.

A PDF of the first presentation is available here.
A PDF of the second presentation is available here.
A PDF of the final presentation is available here.
Stay tuned for further updates on Needham Street!
