Forum Summary May 1, 2003
The Women’s Enterprise Initiative held their second
forum for 2003 on May 1. During the networking period, the entranceway
bustled with a wide variety of attendees ranging from students, aspiring
entrepreneurs, professionals, to interested citizens. Approximately
65 people came to hear Anne Marie Biernacki of The Digiticians present
her business plan in the Kresge Auditorium at Pine Manor College. Our
moderator, the exceptional Robin Young of “Here and Now”
heard on WBUR, charmed the crowd with her remarkable background and
strong support of women entrepreneurs.
Anne Marie Biernacki, Chief Technology Officer of The Digiticians
of Waltham, informed the audience on the current trends in the computer
support industry and described the niche services that her enterprise
provides. Founded in December 2000, The
Digiticians offers affordable remote technical support to small businesses,
home offices, and residential customers. Ms. Biernacki discussed the
development of The Digiticians, briefed the group on the technology
behind the business, identified the key issues facing the company, and
highlighted the progress to date. Anne Marie posed questions to the
panel in three areas: customer service, merchandising, and e-commerce.
The panel of experts included Judith Obermayer of Obermayer Associates,
Dorothy Langer of Langer and Company, and Cheryl Salatino, Senior Vice
President of Collaborative Insight. The panel provided Anne Marie with
valuable and insightful critiques as well as offered her specific suggestions
for change. The evening ended with questions and feedback from the audience
as well as promotion of the next WEI event to be held on October 23,
2003 at the Newton Free Library featuring Merri Ansara of Common Ground
Education and Travel Services.
WEI extends much thanks to our generous sponsors, Auburndale Co-operative
Bank, Boston Private Bank, and Sovereign Bank who not only provide WEI
with the necessary funds to continue our business plan forums, but they
also attend every event! More thanks go out to WEI past presenters for
attending this forum and continuing to stay connected to WEI. Last but
certainly not least, thank you to Roche Bros. for providing delicious
refreshments.
