Mission Statement   To check as required by statute the accuracy, and annually seal or condemn, all weighing and measuring devices used commercially in the city of Newton. 

These include various types of scales and balances weighing from one tenth of a grain to over 10,000 pounds; weights of various denominations including avoirdupois, metric, apothecary, troy and decimal; and liquid measuring meters on oil trucks, gasoline pumps, bulk oil racks, and oil and grease dispensers. 

Other devices checked for accuracy include taxi meters, fabric measures, yard stick and dry measures; Inspect all laser scanning devices in accordance with state regulation requirements. Includes, scanner accuracy, price verification, unit pricing and item pricing.
