Special Election Information

The City of Newton will hold a Special Election on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 to consider a referendum question which asks voters to approve the Site Plan Board Order for the construction of a new Newton North High School.

Under Newton’s City Charter, certain measures approved by the Board of Aldermen are subject to referendum. In this case, petitions containing sufficient signatures were filed to initiate the referendum process. After receiving the petitions, the Board of Aldermen referred the matter to the voters in accordance with the City Charter.

At the January 23, 2007 election, voters will determine by majority vote whether to approve Site Plan Board Order #224-06 that was approved by the Board of Aldermen on September 5, 2006.

The Board Order refers to architect’s plans which are presented below. Please note that the plans are all subject to modification to reflect Option 5A as noted in the Board Order. Click on each image to see a larger view. Full size copies of the plans presented below are available for inspection in the City Clerk’s Office at Newton City Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and on Tuesday evenings until 8:00 pm.
