About the Child Care Commission

The purpose of the Child Care Commission is to ensure the availability and affordability of quality child care for Newton residents and employees.

 The Child Care Commission's mandate includes;

  • Monitoring and assessing the need for child care programs and services in the city
  • Advising elected officials about child care needs
  • Assisting in framing public and private child care policy by way of recommendations
  • Working in tandem with city, state and private agencies to provide assistance to private child care providers and employers seeking to establish or expand child care programs
  • Increasing public awareness of the importance of a quality network of child care
  • Encouraging and facilitating the involvement of employers and real estate developers in supporting child care
  • Encouraging and facilitating continued cooperative relationships between child care programs and the city's religious, educational, charitable and health care institutions.
