BOARD OF ALDERMEN APPOINTMENTS
There are more than 100 Boards, Commissions, Committees and Advisory Councils serving the City of Newton. All residents interested in serving their community are encouraged to submit an application to volunteer their talents and ideas to one of these bodies. Citizen participation is a vital component in the continued good work needed to meet the ever changing needs of the City.
Appointments to the Boards and Commissions come from the Mayor, the Board of Aldermen, and the School Committee. The Board of Aldermen is currently seeking Newton residents interested in serving on the following Committees. Understanding the Process
Who can apply to be a member of a Board or Commission?
Any resident of the City of Newton can apply for consideration. Some Boards or Commissions may require certain types of expertise from candidates but most do not have any specific educational or vocational requirements.
How do I apply for a Board or Commission?
Candidates should send a completed application, letter of interest and resume to:

What is the selection process?
The full application will be reviewed by the President of the Board of Aldermen. If the candidate is selected for appointment, the recommendation will go to the appropriate Committee of the Board for review and the candidate will be invited to meet the Committee. The appointment will then go to the Full Board of Aldermen for final review and approval.
When will I be notified about my application?
Candidates will be notified within 60 days of receipt of their completed application
