Massachusetts Community Preservation Act (CPA)

The Community Preservation Act itself (Massachusetts General Laws chapter 44b) specifies how the Act is adopted and implemented in local communities.

CP funds may be spent only on community (affordable) housing, historic resources, open space, and land for recreational use. The Act also specifies: the types of work or activities that may be funded for each resource, to ensure that "community preservation funds [do] not replace existing operating funds, only augment them."

NEXT PROPOSAL DEADLINE
15 October 2010 (to be confirmed)

Start working on your proposal at least 3 months before the deadline. The CPC will not consider incomplete or late proposals, and proposals submitted without the advance preparation below are less likely to be successful.
First, read the funding guidelines and forms below carefully. If your proposal involves historic resources or housing, also read the checklist of additional attachments required. Then contact us for an in-person meeting, so we can walk you through the process and provide forms that can be completed on a computer.
Contact us at any time of year :
-- to ask if your proposal can be considered off-cycle (real estate acquisitions only)
-- to ask if you can use the "supplemental" rather than the regular funding process
-- for help in preparing a pre-proposal (a "one-pager"), which you can use to request a preliminary opinion on funding eligibility, seek matching funds, or make the CPC aware of a future proposal
