"Echo Bridge, Newton, Mass."

Manufacturer's No.: 7339

Publisher: New England News Co.

Village: Upper Falls
Filed: Charles River - Norumbega Park
Keywords: Bridges / Aqueducts / Dams, Rivers / Brooks

The Card shows:
Colored lithograph of photographic view of the aqueduct looking north from a vantage point below the mill dam almost at water level. The river fills the foreground of the view, and trees fill the view through the arch, with perhaps a footbridge just visible in the distance. The stonework of the aqueduct has been tinted a pinkish color. A variant version of this same view uses the same manufacturer's number, but gives the bridge a bluish tint and has an undivided back.) The caption on this variation separates "Echo Bridge" and "Newton, Mass."

The existence of an undivided-back card with the same number indicates that this version was probably a reprint done soon after the change in postal regulations allowing divided backs -- 1907 or soon thereafter.

The card was apparently manufactured by ANC -- the company's Poly-Chrome trademark and cloverleaf logotype appear in the upper left corner of the back. The complete publisher's credit runs vertically up the left side of the card back: "Published by The New England News Company, Boston Mass., Leipzig, Dresden. The card back is clean except for a circled "199" in red pencil.

Postcard type: Divided Back
Estimated Date of Publication: About 1907
