The Card shows: A tinted lithograph of a photographic view looking north from a viewpoint on the walkway across Echo Bridge. The dam at the lower end of the gorge has been heavily retouched to make it more visible, and a small boat is pulled up to the bank at lower right. The trees, in summer leaf, have been arbitrarily colored green, pink, and a light blue in the printing process. The manufacturer's number, 212108, and logo, a circled "JV," are reversed into the plate at lower left. The card was postmarked from Newton on August 19, 1914, and addressed to Mrs. George Huff, North Edgecomb, Maine: "How I miss running in to your house after supper. The peas were delicious and got here all right. The memory of my good time is lots of company for me. W(?)innie F. Forbush." (The postmark could be either April or August, but the mention of peas implies a summer date.)The card is is in fair to good condition, with minimal edge and corner wear, smudge postmark ink transfer on the face, and a small rip in the left edge. It is marked on the back with "25" and a circled "D-90-15." Postcard type: Divided Back Estimated Date of Publication: Before 1914 Postmark Date: 1914 |
