The Card shows: A colored lithograph of a photographic view of the aqueduct taken from a viewpoint toward the eastern end of the lower dam looking south. A mill building is visible under the arch. The view is very similar if not identical to the monochrome lithograph identified only as "1940." The complete manufacturer's credit runs vertically up the left edge of the card back: "The Illustrated Postal Card Co., New York - Germany." It is preceded by the number 178-.34 and a logo treatment of the initials "IPC&NCo." (possibly standing for the Ilustrated Postal Card & News Co.") This card is a variant of an unnumbered card of the same view that appears to have been issued by the same manufacturer. The card was postmarked July 10, 1908 and addressed to Miss Theresa Fitzpatrick c/o Quincy A. Shaw, Pride's Crossing, Mass. (Though the card has a divided back the address runs across the width of the card -- the sender was obviously not used to the new postal regulations allowing a message alongside the address.) A brief, largely illegible message is scrawled under the address. Postcard type: Divided Back Estimated Date of Publication: Before 1908 Postmark Date: 1908 |
