The Card shows: Colored lithograph of a photographic view of the aqueduct. The viewpoint is difficult to identify because the identifying characteristics of the span itself are masked by heavy foliage, and no landmarks are visible beneath the arch. It is most likely taken from the lower dam north of the aqueduct, looking south, and from far enough eas that the mill dam and buildings are not visible. Like several other cards, this one appears to have been printed by the Rotograph Co. -- the caption is in the same typeface and the ink used on the back is the same orange. In addition to the manufacturer's credit, which runs vertically down the dividing line of the three-quarter divided-back card, there is a number in parentheses in the the lower right corner of the back -- 37362. There are several copies of this card in the collection -- one unused with a back clean except for the Jackson Homestead stamp that shows heavy corner rounding and chipping, another sent from Bob Spinner to family members in 1989, and another with applied glitter outlining the aqueduct. Postcard type: Divided Back Estimated Date of Publication: About 1910 |
