The Card shows: A blue-tinted lithograph of a photographic view of the aqueduct from a viewoint on the western bank of the Charles just above the dam at the lower end of Hemlock Gorge. The river is very low -- a dock on the eastern bank is high above the water. The view is the same one used for the cards numbered A 6962 and G 6962. Like them, the card is copyrighted 1905 -- the copyright line runs vertically down the right side of the card back. The complete manufacturer's credit runs vertically up the left edge: "11140 The Rotograph Co., N. Y., City. (Germany.)" The number 11140 creates a bit of a mystery. Other cards of this style are part of a "D" series, and one would expect to see this card numbered D 6962, but such is not the case. Also, the view used for this card exists in two versions. See the card numbered G 6962 for a fuller explanation. The card is in excellent condition. It is unused, and the back is clean except for the Jackson Homestead stamp. Postcard type: Undivided Back Publication Date: 1905 |
