Permanent Exhibitions
Within the Jackson Homestead -- built in 1809 and something of an exhibition piece of federal architecture itself -- the Museum maintains permanent galleries designed to make learning about the history of the city and the country fun for the whole family:

The History Gallery
|
Explore Newton's history from the earliest habitation by Massachusett Indians to the end of the 19th century. Learn about the industrial history of the Homestead itself, where the Jackson family operated a candle factory, among other enterprises. See stone and wood tools, beautiful samplers, and early American games and toys.

The Jackson Homestead is a documented stop on the Underground Railroad. Our Underground Railroad exhibit is currently closed for renovations. Our improved and expanded exhibit on the subject, Confronting our Legacy: Slavery and Anti-Slavery in the North, will open to the public on February 16, 2012.
