Mission & Charge

April 9, 2007:
This Executive Order creates the: Newton North High School Liaison Committee
Purpose: The NNHSLC will be charged with three tasks, as follows:

  • To develop a temporary parking plan for faculty and students, who currently park on the existing high school campus. Any recommended changes to posted parking regulations in the neighborhood will be immediately docketed for action by the Traffic Council/Board of Aldermen as appropriate.

  • To provide the high school neighborhood with regular updates on construction progress and schedule and advise the community of any construction activities that may impact the neighborhood, any changes in plans or any other construction related matter that may be of interest. This task will continue through the end of the first full school year after the completion of the new Newton North High School.

  • To serve as a forum to hear and discuss neighborhood concerns and reasonable ways of reducing the impact of the construction upon the neighborhood. This task will continue through the end of the first full school year after the completion of the new Newton North High School. The topics of discussion may include, but are not limited to: hours of construction/delivery, truck routes, trash and debris removal, security, pest control, noise and dust control, blasting, erosion control, tree protection, staging and mobilization, traffic and parking, fire and emergency access.

Composition: The NNHSLC shall consist of the following members:

  • Eight neighborhood representatives with two each representing a side of the school bounding the site, i.e., neighborhoods on or off Walnut Street, Hull Street, Lowell Avenue and Elm Road, nominated by the Ward Two aldermen, and appointed by the Mayor. One Ward Two alderman chosen by the Ward Two aldermen.

  • Two aldermen, one chosen by the Chairman of the Public Facilities Committee and another chosen by the Chairman of the Public Safety Committee.

  • One representative of the School Committee chosen by its Chairman.

  • The Superintendent of Schools or his designee.

  • The principal of Newton North High School or her designee.

  • A representative of the Newton North Parent Teacher Student Organization (or its equivalent).

  • The Mayor or his designee who shall chair the committee.

Representatives of the Building, Planning, Public Works, Law, Police and Fire Departments together with the Traffic Engineer, and project and construction manager shall be available to the committee as needed.

Committee Meetings: The committee shall meet twice a month or at such other intervals as it shall determine.
