Salvatore A. Balsamo Millennium Park
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Salvatore A. Balsamo Millennium Park was held on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Newton City Hall.
I would like to provide you with a timetable for work to be performed for completion of the park. Construction of a temporary ADA access ramp to the ADA elevator began on September 25. The groundbreaking ceremony was on Saturday, September 28th. The Homer Street parking lot will be closed temporarily from October 1 until late November for reconstruction.Two ADA parking spaces will be designated on the "arm" of the City Hall front driveway closest to Homer Street, next to the temporary ADA access ramp leading to the ADA elevator.
During construction, we are asking City employees to please park on the streets around City Hall (Homer Street, Walnut Street, Commonwealth Avenue), not in the Library parking lot.
Invitation for bids for the park development work will be issued in mid-October, 2002. Construction on this part of the project will begin in the spring of 2003 through late summer, followed by landscaping and memorial brickwork, with an estimated completion date of late fall.
