Newton Citizens Pruners
Spring 20076 Training
Newton Citizens Pruners Spring 2007 Training Newton Citizen Pruners, beginning its second year, will conduct training for interested Newton residents on consecutive Monday evenings, March 19, March 29, and April 2, 7-9 p.m. at the Albemarle Field House (adjacent to Gath Pool), with hands-on training Saturday April 14, 8 a.m.-12 noon at a location to be determined. The program provides free training in tree biology, proper tree maintenance and pruning techniques, and will allow people who have completed the training to work on city trees during supervised pruning sessions in locations throughout the city, and learn more about Newton’s urban forest. (Last year, over 150 trees were pruned at five locations.) All pruning is done from the ground, on younger trees and the lower limbs of mature trees. Training will be conducted by Newton’s Tree Warden, Marc Welch, and tools (pruners, handsaws, pole saws and loppers) will be provided by the city during both training and future pruning sessions. Advance registration is required by March 16. For more information or to sign up, email mwelch@newtonma.gov, or call Marc Welch at (617) 796-1500. View the Pruners Photo Gallery |
