Domestic Violence Awareness Presentation Event
The Newton Women's Commission held a well-attended domestic violence awareness event on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at Newton City Hall. The first part was a "Take Back the Night" walk, in which Newton residents simultaneously walked from 6 different locations to City Hall, to raise awareness about domestic violence and to inspire action to stop violence against women. At Newton City Hall, a dozen local organizations on domestic violence issues provided resources and information to the participants. A presentation followed, at which one senior high school student told her personal story of relationship violence. In addition, a domestic violence professional shared disparate experiences of several of her clients in the process of removing themselves and their children from abusive relationships.
