MASSACHUSETTS UNSUNG HEROINES February 6, 2007 Dear Newton Residents, The Women's Commission of Newton, Mayor Cohen’s office and the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW), are seeking "Unsung Heroines" in our community. Is there a mother, a teacher, a community organizer, a church or synagogue member, member of the services/business world in Newton, or a teammate who doesn’t make the news – she makes the difference? The MCSW is recognizing one woman from every city and town in the Commonwealth for service to her community. These are often women who are out of the limelight, sometimes without a prominent position or even a formal job description. The MCSW will generate nominations of Unsung Heroines and choose one winner from each of Massachusetts’ 351 cities and towns. We in the Newton Women’s Commission would like to honor every one of the nominees from Newton, and we hope there will be many. All nominees from Newton for the MCSW 2007 Unsung Heroines Award program will be invited to a special ceremony to recognize their contributions to our community. Please use the form (also posted on www.mass.gov/women) to nominate an Unsung Heroine. Send the completed nomination form to the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women before March 1st by mail or online. Jeremy Solomon, Mayor David Cohen's Director of Policy & Communications and liaison to the Newton Women’s Commission, is coordinating the project in our city. Please call or email Jeremy (jsolomon@newtonma.gov /617-796-1110) for further information. Sincerely, Barbara Deck and Holly Carter |
